Tired Of UTIs? 4 Steps You Should Take To Keep Them Away

Posted on

If you've been getting UTIs non-stop, and your doctor hasn't found a medical reason for the increase, the problem might be due to something you're doing, or not doing. UTIs can be caused by a variety of things, including antibiotic use, or even your current contraceptive. However, they can also be caused by something as simple as the type of panties you wear, or how tight your jeans are. Both of those can cause bacteria to thrive on your genitals, which can lead to the UTIs. If you're tired of UTIs controlling your life, here are four steps you can take to prevent them:

Keep Yourself Properly Hydrated

When it comes to keeping UTIs away, the most important thing you can do is keep yourself hydrated. Have a bottle of water on hand at all times throughout the day and night. Drinking plenty of water will flush out your kidneys, and remove the bacteria that could be causing those UTIs. If you want to switch things up, and make your fluid-consumption even more effective, add cranberry juice to your list of required daily beverages. Don't reach for the cranberry juice cocktail though. The added sugar will increase your risk of developing UTIs.

Don't Hold Your Urine In

If you're in the habit of holding in your urine until you can find the best time to relieve yourself, it's time to break that habit. Your body uses urination as a way to flush impurities out of your system. If you hold your urine in, those impurities build up to unhealthy levels, creating the perfect environment for UTIs. To prevent those infections, you need to urinate as soon as you feel the urge.

Think Infection Prevention After Sex

If you're like most people, infection prevention is probably the last thing you think about after sex. Unfortunately, that might be the cause of some of your UTIs. During sex, bacteria and germs can find their way into your urethra, or the opening of your bladder. You want to get rid of that bacteria as quickly as possible. The best way to do that is by urinating and cleansing your genitals. Go to the bathroom and empty your bladder. Be sure to wipe from front to back, to avoid transferring anal bacteria to your vagina. Next, rinse the vagina off with clear water, and pat dry.

Avoid the Bathtub

If you normally take hot baths, you should switch to showers, especially if you've been developing frequent UTIs. The bacteria that are floating around in your bath water could be causing the infections. Try switching to showers to see if the problem goes away.

Don't let UTIs destroy your life. Use the suggestions provided here to help keep them away. If you continue to have problems, be sure to speak to your doctor about UTI treatment
